Computer Body Posture

I just wanted to use this blog post as a quick reminder about correct body posture while sitting at a computer desk. If, like me, you spend a large portion of your working day sat at a computer, you may suffer from a s tiff back or shoulders from time to time. This is due to the fact that our bodies are not naturally supposed to remain in a position such as this for as long a time as it does in the modern world. If you do not pay attention to maintaining correct posture at your computer, you may end up with long-term chronic problems such as back pain or sciatica. To avoid body strain while at your computer you should utilize a proper computer chair and ensure that it is at the correct height to the desk for your own height. You may also need to adjust the height of your monitor so that you are not straining your neck to look up or down at them. Your eyes should be level with the monitor, ensuring a neutral neck position. You should keep your back upright and shoulders back, keeping the spine straight. A lumbar roll can assist with this. You should use any rests provided such as wrist rests. Try performing stretches while you work to maintain circulation in your body. Take regular breaks from your computer and stretch your muscles to loosen them up. These are just a few hints and tips for ensuring correct body posture at your computer and avoiding a chronic musculoskeletal issues. Before to inform your manager and GP if you start to develop any symptoms that suggest you could be suffering as a result of your posture. Stay safe! Until next time folks!
